Gio Ponti

Pair of 1950s Italian armchairs
Rare pair of vintage Italian curved armchairs dating from 1936, attributed to Gio Ponti for «Casa E Giardino». The armchairs are one of several designs that Ponti and his design group created for “Casa E Giardino” including a coordinating sofa and side chairs. The shell- shaped armchairs have been fully restored by our craftsmen, with neo-traditional upholstery including springs, natural horsehair and jute webbing.
about the designer
Gio Ponti (1891-1979) made history as an influential 20th-century Italian architect and designer, pioneering the modernist movement. His iconic creations, such as the Pirelli Tower in Milan, redefined post-war architecture. Collaborating with prestigious brands such as Richard Ginori, Ponti fused traditional craftsmanship with modernity, shaping a contemporary lifestyle that combines functionality and aesthetics.
